Alternative Decorative Planners My October Spreads

Alternative Decorative Planners My October Spreads

If you havent seen my previous post about why I like to stick stickers and washi tape all over my planner, I recommend looking at it here. Essentially, it makes me more happy to use my planner because its actually a joy to look at. Theres actually quite a big community who do this kind of planner decorating so check them out on Instagram in the tags #plannercommunity #planners #plannerlife #plannernerd and a few others. Because Im a bit spookier than the average planner user Ive been using the tag #gothplanner to show my spreads to fellow spooky planner nerds so check my and their spreads out there.

First up is the October monthly view. Ive been using the monthly view just to mark off big events for school and work which works pretty well for me. I also use washi tape to mark off the days that arent in the month of October and birthdays. As you can see I went pretty Halloween heavy and it was a lot of fun.

Next up is this week from October 28th to October 4th. I also posted pictures of these on my last planner post for the end of September but I really really like this spread. It was the perfect introduction to October for me. One of my favorite things from this week were Halloween countdown tombstone stickers from Addie and Allie on Etsy, I used them throughout the month and they were a great way to remember how close my favorite holiday was.

Next up for the week of October 5th-11th I did a pumpkin spice / autumn coffee themed spread. One of the things Ive decided to do with my planner is try to match my stickers as best as possible to the monthly colors that the Erin Condren Life Planner comes with. That way I can use fewer stickers and have to cover up less stuff. This was a great way to decorate within the October colors of orange and brown and celebrate the season.

In the next spread I did for October 12th to 18th I also wanted to continue to celebrate the season because Id forgotten how absolutely stunning New England is in the autumn. This week I tried putting the countdown stickers on the bottom with the washi but I didnt end up liking this. Still, overall the spread is pretty cute and I decided to start putting a Next Week section in my sidebar so I can see what I need to start preparing for without having to flip to the next week to see my post-it notes.

For the week before Halloween, October 19th-25th, I wanted to do a cute Halloweenish theme that would be different from the one that I would do for the actual week of Halloween. I settled on a purple, orange, black, and white theme which I ended up really loving as it got me in the spirit a lot. This week was also pretty washi heavy but it tied in the colors really well.

The actual week of Halloween, October 26th to November 1st, I wanted to do straight up classic orange and black. This is a crowded week because of course it is, I really wanted to celebrate it as much as I could. Im kind of sad to be done with the Halloween count down stickers, maybe Ill make my own for a 365 Halloween countdown.
So, thats the end of this months spreads! Next month in the Erin Condren is my favorite color, a beautiful turquoise, and I think my spreads might not be quite so Gothy because I want to play it up as much as I can. Alternative Decorative Planners My November Spreads

Alternative Decorative Planners My November Spreads

November was not an especially Gothy month for me on the planner front. The Erin Condren vertical planner that I use has a beautiful turquoise color for the month of November so I wanted to play that up as much as I could. Besides that, Ive been having a lot of trouble finding Goth appropriate stickers post-Halloween! Which is a bummer. Its not that Im surprised, but its going to be kind of annoying finding things to make these spreads appropriate for gothy types. Still, heres a look at the planner spreads I did make for the month of November.

P.S. If youre not familiar with my decorative planning, check out my first post here and then my October spreads. Most of the stickers are from Etsy and the washi tapes are either from Etsy or Michaels. For more specifics, follow me on Instagram @theeverydaygoth where I tag the shops that I use in every spread.

First up is my monthly spread. This spread isnt particularly busy, which is weird considering how many things I had to do this month. I think if I filled in everything I had to do I would have just not been able to read it. Still, I loooove the clocks washi I used here and the blue flower washi, both from Etsy.

So Ill start off with November first, which just happened to be my Halloween spread which youve all seen before. I loved this week, the classic black and orange spread really got me in the mood for Halloween. It was crazy busy but that was perfect for me.

From November 2nd  to November 8th I did a peacock theme. I loved these colors together, the were perfect for my mood and all of these feather stickers are gorgeous. I still have a handful of these so maybe Ill fit them into another spread somewhere.
Next up I did my most gothy spread of the month: pastel goth Monster High! I found a booklet of Monster High stickers from Michaels on sale for a dollar and I just dumped them all into this spread. I love that bat washi down at the bottom and that "RIP Work Week" sticker. It definitely put me in a fantastic mood.

Unfortunately, next up I did a spread that Im not all that thrilled about. This was supposed to be a vintage circus theme but I just dont think I had enough stickers to really pull this off and make it work. Also, I decided to write in a gold gel pen but that just made it more difficult to read and it seems messier to me so... bleh.

This is another spread that is super not gothy but Im absolutely in love with it so I dont care. This is November 23rd to November 29th and, since it was Thanksgiving week, I wanted to do something that reminded me of home. I picked these gorgeous turquoise, orange, and brown colors and did a folksy theme that reminds me a lot of my mother. So, I call this week a success overall.

Lastly, this is the upcoming spread for November 30th-December 6th. I havent used this week yet, as you can see, so its just what my spreads tend to look like at the beginning of the week. As you can see, its Slytherin themed because thats my Hogwarts house (and because Im obsessed with green and silver as a color scheme, which transitions well into the ECLP December colors which are green and light blue.) This was also a fantastic week for washi-- that green washi at the bottom with the scrolls is one of my favorites, as are the silver keys that are in my sidebar.

So this month I didnt do a lot of Gothy spreads, but thats alright. Next month I do have a fantastic Nightmare Before Christmas spread planned which should get me back some of my Goth points.

Are you guys excited for December? What do you have planned?

Alternative Decorative Planners Assorted Spreads

Alternative Decorative Planners Assorted Spreads

Long time no planner post! For the past few months, since my last planner-related post, Ive been keeping my planning mostly in Instagram rather than posting them here monthly. I might come back and do another planner related post here soon (the reason why is at the end of this post, stay tuned!) but for now I thought I would dump some of my favorite planner spreads from the last few months.

I started out the new year with this black and gold layout, made goth with some gorgeous black/gold foiled skull and spiderweb washi tape that I found on Etsy.

The next week I tried out some vibrant, acid greens and found that I absolutely loved them to pieces. This colorscheme is going to make a comeback for sure.

Next is the first of several black and red themes that Ive come to love lately. In this spread I didnt want to use too many full boxes, so I played up lots of smaller stickers and washi tape to make a cute vampire themed look.

For Valentines Day I went a bit softer and more feminine with this burlesque style spread in pink and brown. I loved this a lot just to look at, even if the week was fairly unproductive.

Next up was another red and black vampire themed week. This week was a mash of many different sticker kits all together (you can see the different styles of checklists that I had), so Im kind of surprised it turned out as well as it did.

This week is another favorite that I wasnt expecting to like as much as I did. Its a Sally theme from Nightmare Before Christmas and it turned out bright and fun and Im very fond of it. The yellow washi tape on Saturday and Sunday is a favorite of mine.

This week was galaxy themed and Im pretty fond of how it looks, even if I had trouble writing on some of the stickers because of the the dark pattern.

This week was roughly circus themed and another black and red spread. I really liked it because I started to play with the layout of my spreads which is something I will probably do more of in the future...

Lastly, this weeks spread is another black and red one with lots of different sticker kits. Near the bottom you can see that Ive started a graduation count down sticker sheet, which should be fun for the rest of the month.

So, the reason I might make more planner posts in the future is that I will be switching planners after I graduate in May! I just dont think I need all of the space that this above planner, the Erin Condren Life Planner, offers, and I would like something that I can take with me on the go.

The planner I bought is a black, personal-size Filofax (found on eBay for a steal, since brand new Filofaxes are steep.)

Yes, I know it doesnt look small in comparison but thats because the binder is larger than the inserts. The inserts themselves will be roughly 3.7" x 6.7", in contrast to the Erin Condren whose pages are 7.25" x 9.25." Itll be nice to have a planner that I can slide into my purse for a change.

Binder styles have a lot of different ways to decorate them. You can design and print out your own inserts, buy or make dividers out of whatever scrapbook paper you want, insert charms or decorative paper clips, and a whole host of other things. Im especially excited for all the planner accessories which will come around during the Halloween season.

Im probably not going to make the switch until after graduation so I will be posting more pictures of my Erin Condren planner spreads on my Instagram @theeverydaygoth if you care to have a peek.

Have any of you started using a planner in the new year?

Alternative Decorative Planners and my September spreads

Alternative Decorative Planners and my September spreads

Followers of my Instagram know about my Thing about planners. Yes, Im a planner nerd. Ive written about planners on this blog before in a more practical capacity but my recent love has been decorative planning. Now, there are lots of ways you can decorate a planner. You can use colored pens to color-code or doodle, you can use stamps, you can use washi tape, you can use stickers, you can use craft paper, you can use paint. There are tons and tons of variations on styles. If youre me, that means Goth.

First, though, the basics: why would you use a planner? Well, if youre like me and many other people, you live out of your planner. I check mine multiple times a day to keep track of my blog, my school work, my social life, and more. Without a planner, Im a mess. Its fairly common knowledge that using a paper planner helps you to remember more efficiently than just keeping it in your brain, or even using a digital planner or calendar. So, yay paper planners!

So, you want to use a planner, but why decorate it? If you use a planner as often as I do, its nice to be able to have it look nice when you open it. Just like using a screensaver that inspires you or using a pretty bookmark, making something suit your personal style encourages you to commit to a planner. A vibrant community has sprung up around decorating your planner, especially on Instagram with a lot of Etsy stores that specifically sell stickers. If you want some inspiration (most of it not-Goth, but still great) check out the instagram tags #plannerlife #planneraddict #plannercommunity. and #plannernerd. People use all kinds of planners and all kinds of decorations.

Not everyone will decorate as much as I do, I enjoy my planner as a combination planner, scrapbook, and craft project. Its a fun activity for me, if you just want to stick a Nightmare Before Christmas sticker in the corner of one of your spreads thats perfectly fine! Dont think Im trying to tell you that you must plan a certain way. My planner is on the expensive side (I committed big time to this hobby, not everyone will, obviously) but you can plan using a dollar store planner if you like. Evil Supply Co will be coming out with a Gothy specific planner for the new year, so keep an eye out for that.

My planner cover, which is a protograph I took of Glasgow Cathedral in 2014.
My basics: I use an Erin Condren vertical life planner which is coil-bound and has both weekly and monthly pages. I primarily use just a plain black pen (I find color-coding distracting.) I use a lot of washi tape, as Ive said before, which I mostly get from Michaels, Amazon, and Etsy. I also use a lot of stickers which come from anywhere that sells stickers, including Etsy, dollar stores, Michaels, Five Below, Amazon, eBay, or wherever else I find them. Halloween is a great time to pick up planner supplies for me, as you might imagine.

This is what my monthly view looks like. I was unsure of how I wanted to use the monthly view so I just went with "big events, birthdays, and prettiness." All of the months in the Erin Condren planner are color-coded and Septembers colors are purple and gray, which is great for us spooky types. I started by using black glitter washi from Scotch over the last days of August and first days of October, then using a diagonal stripe washi from Michaels over the two birthdays I have this month. Then I marked some important days, such as the first day of Autumn, when I left for college, and some academic due dates. Then, lots of meaningless stickers and washi. Because I can.

Erin Condrens vertical view is divided into three sections (they used to be labeled Morning, Day, and Night but now theyre blank so you can divide them however you want), which is kind of hard to see in this first one.  Each day is the column, not the row. I personally label them Blog, School, and Personal, but other people have sections for work, for their families, for their hobbies, etc. so its a pretty versatile system.

Lets get to the weekly views:

August 31 - September 6th : Let me start by explaining that this is an impractical week. It was more decorative and fun than anything else because I was still on summer vacation and didnt have much to plan. The theme I wanted to go for, because this is the first week in the planner and the week I was returning for my fourth year of college, was a kind of explorer, cartographer, Steampunk-y spread. Hence all the maps. I dunno, I thought it was cute, if impractical.

September 7 - September 13 : Next up was my first week at school so I did a relatively simple black and purple Gothy theme. Here you can more clearly see the columns divided between Blog, Personal, and School. I also went to Salem that Saturday, which was fun (and I wrote about that here.) In this view I started to use the sidebar to keep track of packages I was waiting for but thats not consistent across the whole month. My favorite detail is probably my convocation day (a school event) on September 8th because I got to use a beautiful Haunted Mansion fullbox sticker.

September 14 - September 20: This week I tried to go for a Maleficent themed week in purple, green, pink, black, and gray, inspired by the little Maleficent stickers and the Maleficent silhouette up on the top left. I thought this was a fun week and the pink definitely added a refreshing pop of color. As you can see I started experimenting with a little bit of scrapbooking by adding the sticker I got from the Salem Witch Museum the previous week to the side bar. Once again I used the sidebar to track packages that I was waiting for.

September 21 - September 27 : This week is my black and gray Gothy themed week and its absolutely one of my favorites. I love the washi, the main kit that I used, and all the extra stickers from everywhere else. My sidebar section this week are little reminders of things I need To Clean, To Buy, To Go, and To Do which works out really well for me. Overall this is probably the most gothy themed week Ive done and Id like to do something similar probably in November.

September 28 - October 4 : Heres what a week looks like just after Ive planned and before the week has properly started and things get messy. This weeks theme was YAY! OCTOBER! HALLOWEEN! and lots of fun, bright colors ensued. This week I relied pretty heavily on the dollar sticker books from Michaels which I would really, really recommend for anyone wanting to get started with planning without wanting to drop a lot of money. The house, candy, bats, witch, and owl in this spread are all from those sticker books and I am definitely looking to pick up more. I ended up revising the sidebar to track packages after this picture was taken but for now it looks so bright and cute.

Now all thats left is to start planning the month of October in earnest. Heres a preview of what my planner spreads look like before I start slapping down stickers (I usually reserve the planning process and putting down stickers properly for the Sunday before I start using that week so I can theme the post all together.) These post-it notes are from the Dollar Tree, the smaller ones are events I have to do and the bigger one is notes about the theme Im going to go for this week.

Do you use a planer? If so, do you decorate it? If yes and you use Tumblr, Twitter, or Instagram be sure to use the hashtag #gothplanner to show us your spreads! Any kind of planner or level of decoration is welcome.
