Ally Pally Live TV Show and a real Groovi Treat
Ally Pally Live TV Show and a real Groovi Treat
Hi there!
Thanks for popping in.
Thanks for popping in.
Were at Ally Pally today.
And we are streaming a live Clarity TV show from there at 11am.
So fingers crossed it works!
We had such a blast in April when we streamed out live.
It is great working with a live audience!
Heres the demo I am hoping to show you,
using Jayne Nestorenkos fantastic Christmas designs,
which complete the Flower Frame Collection.

We held them back for just this auspicious occasion.
Introducing
The Holly & The Ivy Plates

and
The Poinsettia Plates

which are also designed to fit into the A4 Alphabet Picture Frame

Its not a complex design.
I cant do complex - especially not on Live TV at a Live show!
NOT A CHANCE!!!!
Start the frame, but leave a corner open.

Slot the plate in on top of the Alphabet and
add a little pine element.

Add the fantastic large pine branch.

Close the frame around the hanging pine.

Add the words top and bottom...

I LOVE this font!!
It really is beautiful.
Well done Jim x

Lets use some holly from the large central image in the corner....

Next comes the landscape and the moon from the Starter Kit
and the snow from the Diagonal grid.

Hahaha.
I am chuckling at myself.
The trick on live selly telly is to be sure to use
all the things on the counter.
I think Ive pretty much got EVERYTHING going on here!!!
Oh hang on!
The black mat.
Yep, lets use the soft side of the black mat for the whitework.
And lets use the biggest baddest ball tool in the bag...
No. 6

Time to decorate the side panels of the frame.

Looking good....
What are the chances of completing this in the alloted time
on telly?

Colour in the border in blue.
I used Spectrum Noir Blending Pencils.
We have a special offer on them:
5 tins for the price of 4

Flip over to the back and attach to a piece of copy paper.
Load one of our brushes with a dark blue ink pad.
Im liking the new Artistry pads.
We stock the full range now.
So I went with Midnight Blue.

Round and round and round the outside with the brush.

Flip over.
Magical.

I caught this trick from Maria on the telly .
She used the ink pads as a colour palette.
Not diluted, just pure colour to paint with a paintbrush.
So out with the No 6 Sable hair brush.
Very good. Well done Maria!

That works well.

Thatll do.
Now heres the thing.
Do I use the Light Blue parchment as a layer behind?

Or do I go with the dark ivory in the background?
That totally changes the blue to a teal colour.

Just wanted to show you how a translucent layer of colour in the background can completely change the whole feel.
Blue for TV though.
And Blue for the blog too.

Hope you were able to watch.
Hope you love Jaynes designs as much as we do.

Once again, she has struck a wonderful festive note
with these illustrations.
Love & hugs,
Barb

Alternatives to Real Pumpkins
Alternatives to Real Pumpkins
Sadly, not everyone can have a real pumpkin for the Halloween season, carved or otherwise. Some places simply dont have them for sale, or theyre marked up at ridiculous prices. Still other people might not be allowed by their landlords to have one, or dont want to deal with disposal at the end of the season. So, what other options do you have if you want pumpkin decor for Halloween and the autumn without all the fuss of a real pumpkin? Here are some ideas:

Plastic Pumpkins
Fake foam or plastic pumpkins are abound in craft stores and now is a good time to pick one up. They come in orange, white, black, and chalkboard at Michaels. You can leave it plain or give it a makeover with dripped crayons (rainbow on a white pumpkin is great, but black/silver/gray or Halloween colors would be great too), adding craft ribbons or bows, adding a glow-in-the-dark treatment, covering it in fake gems, or painting it to match your decor.

Velvet PumpkinsI re-pinned this idea onto my Halloweentown Ideas Pinterest board a few months back and I still absolutely adore it. A stuffed pumpkin made out of a rich, fall-like fabric is a great option and a good way to spend a rainy afternoon. Heres a tutorial from HGTV for easy sewn pumpkins which can be done in velvet, burlap, cotton, or any other fabric you can think of.

Origami
Making an origami pumpkin is actually super simple and you can do it with any kind of paper. Patterned scrapbook paper is a wonderful way to add a Gothy touch or to match your own home decor. For a simple tutorial, check here on Origami Instructions.

Mercury Glass
Mercury glass is a very pretty material that works especially well for Halloween decor. Something about the reflective but distorted surface is a really refreshing take on the traditional orange pumpkin and great if youre not crazy about incorporating tons of orange into your Halloween look. This one above is from Pottery Barn, or you can look here for a tutorial on adding a Mercury-Glass look to any glass.

Carved Turnips
If you want an alternative to a large pumpkin but you want something organic still, consider buying a turnip to carve! Turnips are more traditional in certain places and are much more space efficient. For a turnip carving tutorial, check here on Makezine!
Do you prefer real pumpkins for your Halloween decor, or do you add in fake ones as well?
