Ally Pally Live TV Show and a real Groovi Treat

Hi there!
Thanks for popping in.

We’re at Ally Pally today.

And we are streaming a live Clarity TV show from there at 11am.

So fingers crossed it works!

We had such a blast in April when we streamed out live.

It is great working with a live audience!

Here’s the demo I am hoping to show you,

using Jayne Nestorenko’s fantastic Christmas designs,

which complete the Flower Frame Collection.

We held them back for just this auspicious occasion.

Introducing

The Holly & The Ivy Plates

and

The Poinsettia Plates

which are also designed to fit into the A4 Alphabet Picture Frame

It’s not a complex design.

I can’t do complex - especially not on Live TV at a Live show!

NOT A CHANCE!!!!

Start the frame, but leave a corner open.

Slot the plate in on top of the Alphabet and

add a little pine element.

Add the fantastic large pine branch.

Close the frame around the hanging pine.

Add the words top and bottom...

I LOVE this font!!

It really is beautiful.

Next comes the landscape and the moon from the Starter Kit

and the snow from the Diagonal grid.

Hahaha.

I am chuckling at myself.

The trick on live selly telly is to be sure to use

all the things on the counter.

I think I’ve pretty much got EVERYTHING going on here!!!

Oh hang on!

The black mat.

Yep, let’s use the soft side of the black mat for the whitework.

And let’s use the biggest baddest ball tool in the bag...

Time to decorate the side panels of the frame.

What are the chances of completing this in the alloted time

on telly?

Colour in the border in blue.

I used Spectrum Noir Blending Pencils.

We have a special offer on them:

5 tins for the price of 4

Flip over to the back and attach to a piece of copy paper.

Load one of our brushes with a dark blue ink pad.

I’m liking the new Artistry pads.

We stock the full range now.

So I went with Midnight Blue.

Round and round and round the outside with the brush.

Flip over.

Magical.

I caught this trick from Maria on the telly .

She used the ink pads as a colour palette.

Not diluted, just pure colour to paint with a paintbrush.

So out with the No 6 Sable hair brush.

Very good. Well done Maria!

That works well.

That’ll do.

Now here’s the thing.

Do I use the Light Blue parchment as a layer behind?

Or do I go with the dark ivory in the background?

That totally changes the blue to a teal colour.

Just wanted to show you how a translucent layer of colour in the background can completely change the whole feel.

Blue for TV though.

And Blue for the blog too.

Amount of Advertising Allowed on TV

“Television has a changed a child from an irresistible force to an immovable object.” ~ unknown

First we will begin with children who what on average more than 3 hours of TV each day. These programs are limited to 12 minutes per hour of advertising during this time. We also note that the FCC (Federal Communications Committee: created in 1934) requires that commercial TV station provide 3 hours of core/educational programs each week between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. The programs need to be at least 12 hours in length.

Now as too regular TV regulations on advertising, I can’t find any. Some think it may be between 10 ½ to 12 minutes per hour, but I can’t find any data or law to back that up.

TVs were invented in the 1920s but did become common until of 1950s. Like radio, it was regulated by the FCC and still is. Stations had to have licenses and still do. And they had: an obligation to serve the interest of the community. This obligation requires the licensee to ascertain the needs of the community and then provide program service to foster public understanding of those issues. How the licensee provides programming to serve the needs [was] left to the licensees discretion.

New rules were adopted in 1972 for cable TV.

It would seem that since TV and radio are privileges granted to stations that should be regulated by the regulatory agency it terms of time limits on advertising.

As to actual regulations for the time per hour allowed for advertising I can’t find any. Perhaps there are none and never were. What we do know is that today typically a ½ hour program has 22 minutes of content and 8 minutes of advertising (6 min. for national and 2 for local). Or, in 10 hours of TV you get about 3 hours of advertising which is about double what it was in the 1960s when a typical commercial of 30 seconds to 1 minute.

Growing up I thought it was an FCC rule that there were on 3 minutes per half hour or hour that was legal. But it appears that was just myth.

The idea of radio and TV was that it existing and was licensed to provide for the public welfare. It seems today that it is more just an example of unregulated who can get the most bucks standard.

Now to another related area.

Have you ever tried to compare how much time on an usual TV news program is spent on hyping coming news versus the actual news itself. Now I haven’t sat down with a stopwatch and figured this out nor can I find any source that has, but my guess it would be about 75% hype and 25% actual news, and that might be generous. Or in mobile news, from the Internet etc., it is estimated at 92% hype [McKinsey and Company.] With this said, I must admit that I spend most of my time searching for news on the Internet than TV as I can research it better for accuracy and ignore most of the hype.

We typically watch Good Morning America (GMA) for our news. It looks and acts more like a social club that a news organization, even though we like the characters. But news? “This is what we will report next hour” “ this is what we will report, next half hour”, “this is what we are about to report,” “stayed tuned for our news on…”… then the story is about a half minute long.

I guess that is enough grumping for today.

Amorth Watch Hes back because hes got himself a TV show to help separate possession from psychiatric problems

The last time Amorth got mentioned in Skeptobot was way back in August 2006, and then he fell off the radar. So to pop up again a year and a half later hes got to be up to something, and indeed he is. Obviously most news reports about him are in Italian but Ive managed to find this report that states hes making a television and Internet report series.

Oh goody! The San Francisco Sentinel apparently watched the first episode as theyve got some quotes from it.

“Normally when a person experiences these conflicts and problems, the first thing he does is see a doctor and psychiatrist,” he said. “It is very difficult to distinguish the devil’s action from a psychological problem. The person goes to a psychiatrist and after years of therapy obtains no result.

“Then he begins to suspect that the problem is not a natural one and goes to a conjurer from whom he obtains even greater harm. This is what normally happens. At this point, it is possible that someone more experienced in these matters suggests an exorcist.”

The main crux of his show appears to be about getting respect for exorcism and urging Italy to separate possession from psychiatric problems. Call me old fashioned but tying a person with very real mental problems to a bed and telling him the devil has possessed him is probably not a very good thing to do.

He also claims “Mariology" is his field, and The Virgin Mary is Satans great foe because she is very pure and Satan is filthy. I know I shouldnt find that funny, but I do.

Im going to keep an eye on this, and see if I can dig up the shows, to work out what is going on. Hopefully he wont turn into the Gillian McKeith of Exorcism.
