We’re at Ally Pally today.
And we are streaming a live Clarity TV show from there at 11am.
So fingers crossed it works!
We had such a blast in April when we streamed out live.
It is great working with a live audience!
Here’s the demo I am hoping to show you,
using Jayne Nestorenko’s fantastic Christmas designs,
which complete the Flower Frame Collection.
We held them back for just this auspicious occasion.
Introducing

which are also designed to fit into the A4 Alphabet Picture Frame
It’s not a complex design.
I can’t do complex - especially not on Live TV at a Live show!
NOT A CHANCE!!!!
Start the frame, but leave a corner open.
Slot the plate in on top of the Alphabet and
add a little pine element.
Add the fantastic large pine branch.
Close the frame around the hanging pine.
Add the words top and bottom...
I LOVE this font!!

I used Spectrum Noir Blending Pencils.
We have a special offer on them:

Flip over to the back and attach to a piece of copy paper.
Load one of our brushes with a dark blue ink pad.
I’m liking the new Artistry pads.
We stock the full range now.
So I went with Midnight Blue.
Round and round and round the outside with the brush.
Flip over.
Magical.
I caught this trick from Maria on the telly .
She used the ink pads as a colour palette.
Not diluted, just pure colour to paint with a paintbrush.
So out with the No 6 Sable hair brush.
Very good. Well done Maria!
That works well.

Now here’s the thing.
Do I use the Light Blue parchment as a layer behind?
Or do I go with the dark ivory in the background?
That totally changes the blue to a teal colour.
Just wanted to show you how a translucent layer of colour in the background can completely change the whole feel.
Blue for TV though.

An Ode to a Spoon
I never thought a spoon would deserve a column. Until I fell in love with one. From the very first glance I knew this was the one: brilliantly designed, tastefully elegant, modestly shiny, and not mine...
Possessing it could brighten anyones existence. No more awkward spoon maneuvering inside a narrow sugar or yogurt container. No more grains sifting along the sides of stylish yet slim, cheek-less spoons. Imagine, finishing all the milk with your cereal without needing a tablespoon or straw. Remember the unpleasant screeching sound when scratching the bottom or sides of a plastic or glass container with a regular spoon? This beautys rounded contour would make it silent.
With a simple twist of your wrist, a soft little mountain of cottage or whipped cream majestically rests upon this spoon. Lift your hand a bit, and the spoon is right there, whispering to your lips. Think about the awkward elbow rotation, the longer travel paths to your mouth and the ridiculous diagonal fit of a regular spoon in it.
Left column: regular spoon. Right column: the perfect spoon. Note how both testers arms are extended in the left column as compared with the right and how regular spoon goes diagonally into mouth, while the perfect spoon fits naturally straight.
I’ll grant you that the lack of symmetry is unsettling, though thought-provoking and memorable. But isn’t that one of the reasons we like Picassos paintings?
Afraid that asymmetry will lead to a lack of balance, I borrowed the spoon from the lucky owner (thanks, Rachel). In a Consumer Report-like testing environment we built at home, two testers used it for a week and raved of the spoons superior usability. These two testers, who are notorious spillers, showed absolutely no issues with balance.
What are you saying? You are a lefty? Yes, you deserve a reversed copy.
Feeding your child? Sit to his right and just extend your hand, the spoon is already in his mouth. No need to play airplane, risking a spill of all contents before landing.
A fan of sporks? They are just undecided peasants compared with her majesty.
Do I deserve it? Me, who rarely notices how and what I am eating, distracted by the kids’ requests. Me, who could eat with a plastic spoon, crazy glued spoon or a spoon vandalized by a garbage disposal? Probably, not. Still, I will be searching for you, the perfect one. To own, to hold in my hands, to sip from it. My modest puzzling queen, I promise to adore you forever.

Astronauts challenge the patriotism of Global Warming Alarmists by planting flagsIntroduction
The paper, ‘Rocks Can Fly’ is a cogently-argued scientific refutation of the basic equations used by flight theorists. Apparently, rocket scientists may have incorrectly assumed the forces acting on rockets all along.
The study questions the numeric bedrock of the theory of flight by applying data collected by NASA decades ago. It seems during the Apollo Moon landings era NASA devised a whole new set of hitherto unreported equations, more reliable than those relied upon by supporters of the theory of flight, to get Neil Armstrongs carbon boot prints safely planted on that airless Sea of Tranquility.
The paper is co-authored by Martin Hertzberg, PhD, Consultant in Science and Technology, Alan Siddons, a former radiochemist and Hans Schreuder, a retired analytical chemist. The researchers had the bright idea of delving back into NASA’s archives to test the "Newton law of Gravitation" equations in fine detail. The three men stumbled on the apparent flaws during an online debate on the science behind the theory of flight.
Published online on May 24, 2010, the study argues that the flaw has always lain in Newtons equations. The long-trusted formula has been used by rocket scientists without question - until now. The researchers report that the numbers used in those equations are the “first assumption that rocket science makes when predicting the flight of a rocket.”
NASA Abandoned Flawed Gravity Calculations in 1960’s
To theory of flight sceptic scientists it seems self-evident that rockets should not be treated like a point mass. It is more properly a complex spinning structure with large variability in air resistance and thrust. But, despite the U.S. government knowing since the 1960s that the graviational equations were of no use to real-world science, these facts dont appear to have been passed on to rocket scientists.
Rocket Flight Paths Cast Doubt on Gravitational Theory
NASA had found that the flight path of rockets was different than expected because rockets are propelled with thrust rather than only being affected by gravity - an empirical fact that challenges the theory of flight. Computer models supporting flight theory had predicted that rockets would fall out of the sky.
In fact, the Apollo data proves that rockets can fly in paths not predicted by the gravitational equations because the rockets also have thrust.
Thus the success of NASA’s moon landings becomes evidence against the unreliability of gravitation equations in real world science.
Newton Law Of Gravitation Calculations Way Out
The paper tells us how far out Newtons Law Of Gravitation equation could be, “the path of the real rocket is completely different than that predicted by the force of gravity alone. The rocket flies while Newtons Law of Gravitation says it should just fall to the ground!"
But it isn’t just NASA Rockets that dont support the GHG theory. Rockets belonging to other space agencies don’t conform either. As the paper tells us, “The rockets of every country in the world also fly higher than predicted” The three scientists pointedly ask, “Is it any surprise, then, that even a relatively simple body like the biplane would refuse to conform to such a method?”
Other scientists have also come out to refute the theory of flight. Some even go as far as to say the theory actually contravenes the established laws of physics.
NASA Rockets Do Not Fly “Unusually” High
The paper concludes that NASA Rockets do not fly “unusually” high. It is the application of the predictive Newtonian gravitation equation that is faulty and overly simplistic and should not be applied in a real-world context. The proven ability of common substances ( e.g. paper when folded) to glide in defiance of gravity makes all such gravitational estimates questionable.
Are Gravitational Equations Mere Junk Science?
Some may be, if this analysis of NASA’s Apollo numbers is correct. Newtons Law of Gravitation failed to give NASA the crucial information it required on rocket flight paths. Thus, NASA scientists had to create their own model to chart the flight path of the rockets astronauts took to the moon.
Along with the Flightgate revelations, these new findings contradict the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), which has placed enormous reliance on predictions based on research around flight theory that has now been called into question. Even some International Civil Aviation Organization members have denounced the theory....cant remember which ones.

In "The Lottery Mentality," a 2011 editorial in The New York Times, Chrystia Freeland explains that "Americans are mistaken about income inequality because of national self-confidence and the lottery effect."

Americans actually live in Russia, although they think they live in Sweden. And they would like to live on a kibbutz. This isn’t the set-up for some sort of politically incorrect Catskills stand-up joke circa 1960. It is the takeaway from a remarkable study by Michael Norton and Dan Ariely on how Americans think about income inequality.
The right likes to argue that income inequality as an issue doesn’t win elections because Americans don’t begrudge the rich so much as they want to join them. The Norton and Ariely study suggests otherwise. Given a choice, the authors find, Americans would prefer to live in a society more equal than even highly egalitarian Sweden.
Another popular view is that income inequality isn’t experienced as acutely by most Americans as the numbers suggest because of how much can be “consumed” by the lower rungs of the nation’s socioeconomic ladder. No less a figure than Alan Greenspan, the maestro himself, once made this case at the Federal Reserve’s annual Jackson Hole conference, presenting data on the consumption of dishwashers, microwaves and clothes dryers showing that if measured by the possession of these goods – as opposed to the huge and growing income divide -- inequality was decreasing.
That interpretation is not without merit. But it turned out that allowing Americans to prosper by using their homes as A.T.M.s and maxing out on their credit cards was maybe not such a great idea.
Personally, I lean toward two other theories. Americans are mistaken about income inequality because of national self-confidence and the lottery effect.
By national self-confidence, I mean the widespread conviction that the American way is probably right because all those other ways don’t seem to work out so well. This is a wonderful national quality and one of the reasons America has such resilience. But confidence in the American way can make it hard for the country as a whole to recognize when things aren’t working.
Take, for instance, the health care debate, when a politically effective criticism of what has come to be known as Obamacare was to argue that it would destroy the “best” health care system in the world. Mary Meeker, a Silicon Valley guru of impeccably capitalist and American credentials debunked that idea in her recent USA, Inc. presentation, in which she pointed out that “U.S.A. per capita health care spending is 3x OECD average, yet the average life expectancy and a variety of health indicators in the U.S. fall below average. But if you spend way more than everyone else, shouldn’t your results (a.k.a. performance) be better than everyone else’s, or at least near the top?”
Aside from faith in American national excellence, the other main reason Americans seem so unperturbed by the widening chasm between the rich and everyone else is what I like to call the lottery effect. Buying lottery tickets is clearly an irrational act -- the odds are hugely stacked against us. But many millions of us do, because we see the powerful evidence that an ordinary person, someone just like us whose only qualifying act was to buy a ticket, wins our favorite lottery every week.
For many Americans, the nation’s rowdy form of capitalism is a lottery that has similarly bestowed fabulous rewards on the Everyman. The current leading exemplar of self-made billions is Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, and he may soon be outstripped by the even more instant cyber-star Andrew Mason, the founder of Groupon.
But the problem with lotteries is that there are only a few winners. That is the story the numbers tell us about American capitalism today -- and unless that underlying reality changes, at some point all those folks who think they already live in Sweden will realize they live in a winner-take-all society, and that most of us aren’t winning.

A recent submission, "Childhood" by Frances Cornford (Poem #1872), reminded me instantly of this great poem from Shakespeare's As You Like It, 1600. The link between childhood and old age, the full circle of life in which at the first and last stages we are helpless - back to square one: Is second childishness and mere oblivion, Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything. Is our life marked out? Do we merely go through the stages of our life acting it out? Are there really seven stages? Are some of us better actors/actresses than others? Something to debate; no wonder I recall it so well - it was part of my English Literature Syllabus :-)... or perhaps I'm having a mid-life crisis!! Enjoy! Rupindar Millington

Si en la historia reciente de la telefonía móvil ha habido un fracaso sonoro es el del Fire Phone de Amazon. A pesar de todos los recursos de los que dispone la empresa de Jeff Bezos, el terminal no consiguió encontrar respaldo entre los consumidores y las cajas de este terminal se fueron almacenando y almacenando en los gigantescos centros logísticos de la compañía.

Hay que tener en cuenta las normas de Google sobre las modificaciones de software, pero parece haber margen para los planes de Amazon
A día de hoy, Amazon da una pequeña proporción de los ingresos generados a través de aplicaciones precargadas a los fabricantes. Sin embargo, el futuro de los teléfonos de Amazon pasa por una mayor integración. Además de soluciones de software ‘ad hoc’, se especula con la posibilidad de convertir determinados teléfonos en un servicio Premium de Amazon. El usuario disfrutaría de estos privilegios por tener estos teléfonos.
Todo esto parece estar aún sobre el papel. Para hacerse realidad habría que tener en cuenta las normas que Google impone a los fabricantes a la hora de precargar y hacer ciertos cambios. Sin embargo, parece que hay un hueco y que Amazon quiere explotarlo.
