AlphaBakes U Round up

AlphaBakes U Round up



Can you believe its already the end of July? We are well into the second half of the year and more than halfway through round 2 of the alphabet. This months round up is short and sweet but then again U is a particularly difficult letter. Lets hope Caroline has chosen something easier next month! Make sure you check out her blog on 1st August to find out what it is. 

Carolines mum Jacqueline sent in a lovely Mandarin Upside Down Cake. It looks like rays of sunshine, perfect for summer. 


Caroline came up with a very inventive U entry called Utah Scones. She used a recipe from her book United Cakes of America which sounds like a great book. She visited Utah as part of a US road trip in 2012 and ate something very similar. These scones are very different to English scones as they are deepfried and the taste reminded her of churros and doughnuts. She served it with honeyed butter which sounds delicious and chocolate sauce. 


Next is my own entry with a classic Pineapple Upside Down Cake. I thought it was a British classic but it actually originated in America. The cake was lovely and light and the caramelised pineapples were delicious. 


Ellouisa from Ellouisa Cooking also made a Pineapple Upside Down Cake for us. Her blog is in Dutch but she has the recipe in English and in Dutch. Her cake looks like proper rays of sunshine as she managed to keep her pineapples bright yellow. 


Last but not least we have an entry from Elizabeth from Elizabeths Kitchen Diary. She made a Tunisian Orange Cake which is a light and fluffy gluten free orange and almond cake soaked in citrus syrup. The U is from Udis Gluten Free Bread. She used breadcrumbs instead of polenta and the cake turned out beautifully as you can see from the picture below.
