I just bought it last Fall, and Anthro just recently took it off their website. Email me at kristen.fountain@gmail.com, if you are interested in purchasing. An Cat Human Non Dialogue

An Cat Human Non Dialogue

The other day Hugh/Meugh and Lamont were sitting/laying in the front room Meugh in his recliner and Lamont in his round bed under the coffee table. Each were idly musing and thinking about the other. There thoughts seem to bear no resemblance of dialogue or do they?

Lamont: What a fine day this is. Here I lay in my cosy bed in my cosy house while the winds blow outside and the snow in piled high. There are tasty tidbits I can go and eat anytime I want, and I have my sisters to play with. Life is good.

Meugh: What a crappy day. Hell has frozen over for sure. I freeze my butt off every time I have to go outside. I have to struggle to put on clothes and struggle to put them off as I try to continually move snow about which is not impossible. The heat bills are out of sight. Grump.

Lamont: And there sits Meugh in his chair that reclines. He seems to like it that way. I prefer to curl myself but to each their own. He and Mewreen are very good servants that take good care of my sisters and myself. And, they seem to dote upon us with great love and affection. Life is indeed good.

Meugh: Look a Lamont just laying there. I must trim his nails. He drew blood the last time I played with him. Though he did deign to sit on my feet and snuggle for a while, longer than ever before. He’s a good cat, though I wish he’d sit in my lap as he does Doreen’s even if it is only for a short period of time.

Lamont: I wonder why our human servants seem so enamored of us? I wonder why they took us in from the outdoors after a truck flattened our mother? I wonder why they seem to like taking care of us even when they complain about not being able to south, wherever that it, because they have to stay and care for us? I wonder about them.

Meugh: I wonder why our cats follow us around like puppies, if fearful puppies. They are feral wild cats who have years of breeding not to trust anything including people. And yet they love to rub up against us. They seem to like to be around us a good deal and just be in the same room with us. I wonder why that is? Doreen says Lamont even goes to the back window when I go out the to Shackteau and cries. She thinks he misses me. I wonder if he does?

Lamont: What is there about people that like cats. We’re much more aloofthan say dogs that are absolutely gaga about humans and seem to worship them. You’d think they would just have dogs as pets rather than cats as their masters. They are odd creatures but you just can’t help feel affection for their eccentricities.

Meugh: I wish Lamont would come over at least part way and flop on his back and let me rub his belly. He seems to really like that.

Lamont: I think I’ll go over to Meugh, and least part way and flop on my back and stick my paws in the air so he can rub my belly. He seems to like that.

Alex

Alex

They are both called Alex. She is German, tall and swaggering, with tattoos curling across her skin. She wears aviator sunglasses and smokes languidly, more Danny than Sandy. He is Greek, with shining green eyes and lurid orange shorts. His smile is bright and quick, and he speaks softly to the small boy on the boat who is too shy to look at the sea.

It is Alex’s last day in Crete, and her last trip out on the boat.

We punters, boxy in our life jackets, sit on the hot cushioned sides of the boat, smiling tentatively at one another. Alex and Alex leap around the boat, casually rolling up the anchor and performing safety checks: all confidence, cigarettes and dirty laughs.

As it is Alex’s last day she will drive the boat, so she takes her place astride the middle seat and lightly holds the steering wheel with both hands. Her wetsuit is rolled down to her waist, her soaked blonde ponytail drips down her back. Alex sits behind her, soft belly folding over his orange shorts. He places his hands fleetingly on her hips, before resting them on his own legs, turning to smile at the shy boy, who clings worriedly to his mother.

Alex starts the engine, and the boat gathers speed. The wind dashes our hair and the shy boy begins to sit up straighter. The gleam of the water reflects on his face as he turns to his mother in surprise and delight.
Alex parks the boat in a secluded cave, near a rocky outcrop and a not-quite-hidden nudist beach. One by one we snap on masks and snorkels, slip flippers on feet and tip backwards off the side of the boat. We glide through the water on borrowed grace, pirouetting in the water like the ballerinas we could never be, swimming among snippets of fish and diving down towards grimacing underwater caves. Alex silently shows us a starfish on the ocean bed, his orange shorts luminous in the clear water.

An hour later we clamber back aboard, ungainly in flippers and snot. Alex has removed her aviators and is smoking, her make-up smudged eyes squinting at a point just above our heads. Our skin dries and becomes salt tight. Alex smiles his bright smile at the shy boy, asking him gently if he enjoyed his snorkelling. The boy nods, his hair sticking out and eyes shining, grinning widely at Alex, then his mother, then the rest of us.

Alex takes the helm once again and we launch back towards the horizon and the promise of more coves, and a rest stop in a leafy taverna for orange juice, cake and glass jugs of black coffee. The afternoon stretches in front of us with the relaxed resilience of youth. Alex closes her eyes, leaning back on the boat, face tilted towards the high sun. When she opens them again they catch on Alex’s green gaze.

As the afternoon begins to fade we take our places back on the sides of the boat, casually now, wearing our afternoon of experience easily. We dangle arms and legs into the water as we begin to speed and it begins to froth. We approach the beach, slow, then stop. Swimmers in the shallows turn to watch us anchor and slide one by one into the surf, holding our bags over our heads as we walk towards the shore and the hotel.

Later, after showers and goodbyes, the two of us sip large beers in the hotel beach bar. The day’s sun is trapped beneath our skin. The sea and sky shine metallic turquoise and luminous pink.

Over my beer I look out onto the mirror sea, and search out our boat, anchored and still. Two figures, one in a pair of orange shorts, the other with gleaming hair, are climbing aboard. They stand face to face, the setting sun barely squeezing through the gap between their bodies. They sit down, one in front of the other, at the steering wheel. I don’t hear the engine, but the water parts as the boat slides forwards. They pick up speed and soon the sea is churning in their wake as they circle the bay once and glide off around the curve of the headland.

Back at the bar the music pulses. Men with folded faces and lifelong tans stand in Speedos, sharing watermelon from a washing up tub. A tiny child dances a naked jig on the sand, and the sun slips into the sea.

All About The Week Quest Giveaway Winners!

All About The Week Quest Giveaway Winners!

Since it is Friday and my brain is ready to shut off for the weekend (ha, who am I kidding, it is always ready to shut off) I am going to partake in the fun Friday 5 and favorites link ups and share randoms about the week that has been!

First, I want to thank you guys for your participation in the Quest Nutrition giveaway. They emailed me to let me know how much feedback they received from it, so I am hoping we will team up again very soon away to give you guys more products! I have tell you, even on my darkest and hardest days, you guys never fail to make me smile and give the that push I need to keep going. As I said earlier this week, it has been difficult adjusting to the abundance of changes ensuing in personal life, but you guys make it worth it. This my passion. Its hard work, but I love it. Some of you say I inspire you, but you will never know how much you all inspire me. Thank you for all of the meaningful and heartfelt comments and emails. They gave me hope and faith. OK enough sappiness...

Last week when I was in the grocery store, I happened to see a trial/travel size of John Friedas Curl Reviver Mousse. Since it was like $1-$2 I figured why not try it. I love big hair. There are three things that can never be too high in life - ones heels, hair, and standards. Ha! I forgot it about over the weekend, but found it on Monday morning when I was fixing my hair for work. I absolutely love this product! It gives tons of volume, does not weigh the hair down, and it adds just enough curl - not too tight, but not too dull. It is like a wavy/beachy look. If you want an affordable, good product to add volume, I say give it a try!
Tuesday I awoke to hitting the 50 pound loss mark. It was exciting and rewarding. Its been a lot of hard work getting my life and body back, but I continue it one healthy choice and one kick-ass workout at a time. I have really stepped up my cardiovascular training over the past 2 months. I believe it is really helping. Of course, clean eating must be the top priority, but intensifying workouts never hurt anyone! Plus I rarely ever drink anymore. In August of 2010 when my gym first opened, I used the StairMill. My gym is huge - 3 stories, and only has two StairMills. It is the hardest cardio machine I ever used besides the Jacobs Ladder (I wish so much I had access to this machine!). Last year I did not use it at all. I lost motivation, so the last thing I would want to do is use a machine that pushes me to my limits. Even earlier this year, I stayed away. Finally, I snapped out of it and I have been using it again at least 4 times a week. The StairMill aids tremendously in training to make me stronger while hiking and jogging. I can absolutely tell a huge difference strength wise. If you have access to this machine at a gym, use it! It is hard, but worth it. It makes me sweat like no other. Do not expect to use that machine and look pretty. It is all about hard work. When I first started using it a few years ago, I could barely do 10 minutes. I kept it and kept working and now I can do an hour. Do not be discouraged if you can only use this machine for a few minutes - just keep trying! It is worth it!
To celebrate my 50 pound loss, I went to Polished Nail Bar for a pedicure. I never ever get manicures or pedicures... I do everything myself at home. However, this past weekend I decided to treat myself to manicure and pedicure since I worked so much last week and my body was aching. I loved it. I received a leg massage that my calves were so thankful for, the chair vibrated your back, and you are served a class of Chardonnay. That is my idea of relaxing. Thus I went again. I didnt even need another pedicure, but I loved the massage and relaxation part of it so much that it felt worth it!

Wednesday, my Ipsy bag came! What do you guys think about yours so far? At first glance, I was not excited. I love makeup and color. This bag just seemed kind of... boring. However, now that I have received it, it is not so bad. I am eager to try the hair mask; I am always looking for good products for my hair. I never wear concealer so I am happy to have a tube to try out! If anyone wants to try my facial cleansing wipes for something they received - let me know. I m open!

If you dont know what Ipsy is - it is a monthly makeup bag you receive via mail. It is only $10 a month and with that you get a makeup bag and 3-4 beauty products. You are billed on the first of every month and products arrive between the 10-15th! When you sign up, you get to customize your settings so you get products closely matched to your beauty preferences. If you want to join, please click here and use my link! I will appreciate you!

My mom arrived yesterday! She is here for the weekend and I am so excited to have her here. She single and ready to mingle, so I hope to show her a good time this weekend. We already started it good last night. We went grocery shopping at Target, bought some goodies at Ulta, then had dinner and a cocktail at one of our favorite restaurants "City Tavern". Now to get through this work day, then it will be time for the weekend!

Least but not least, I have the winners from the Quest Bar giveaway! They are listed below and were chosen via Rafflecopter who used Random.org. All entries were verified and I will email the winners for their shipping address!

Answers to the Sandy Hook tragedy found in the Christmas Season

Answers to the Sandy Hook tragedy found in the Christmas Season

We are all searching for answers after the Sandy Hook school tragedy.  Heres a very important message that relates to the Season...

On the VERY SAME DAY of the school shooting last week, a group of pilots for an organization called "Pilots for Kids" quietly visited and distributed toys and stuffed animals to sick kids at the Phoenix Childrens Hospital.

The "Pilots for Kids" team at the Phoenix Childrens Hospital

I have done this for the past several years.  It has always been rewarding, but this year was particularly poignant, as each of us had witnessed in helpless horror the tragedy unfolding on the news that morning.  We had no choice but to put on our happy faces and do our best to bring a little joy into several innocent, suffering, sweet little lives.

We would have done it anyway, regardless of the days news.

My point...

Capn Aux visits his new friend Hannah

While a few sick, evil deeds are daily splashed across the headlines, MILLIONS of GOOD, BEAUTIFUL deeds are quietly being performed around the world.  MILLIONS are daily bringing comfort, JOY, and a smile to a childs face.

I  also gave Marcus and Hannah a copy of my first novel, "Code Name: Dodger."  100% of proceeds from the novel go to the orphanage charity, warmblankets.org

I am privileged to do this once a year.  But DAILY, around the globe, others voluntarily perform these heroic deeds, for no other reason than to help others in their needs.

You dont need to be a Christian to ingest these words of wisdom:
"Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world."—James 1:27

Thousands showed up spontaneously to pray and show support for the victims and their families.

Mother Sue comforts son James after the ordeal.

My friend Terry, former coworker, pilot and regular reader of this blog, went to the very same Sandy Hook grade school.  His brothers children were in school that day.  PRAISE GOD, they were able to escape unharmed (see pic above).
PLEASE PRAY FOR THEIR HEALING!
(and especially for those of the victims and their families!)

Sandy Hook vigil

We live in a free society.  We can take precautions, but, sadly, this will happen again.  It is easy to be distracted by the awful headlines, get discouraged, become fearful of the world outside our own doors, and fall into despair.

Nevertheless, I say again, GOOD MARCHES ON.

From the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.:
"I have not lost faith. Im not in despair, because I know that there is a moral order. I havent lost faith, because the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice...With this faith we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope...and all over the world we will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, were free at last!"

"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing."—Edmund Burke

EVIL IS NOT TRIUMPHING.  DAILY, AROUND THE WORLD, GOOD MEN AND WOMEN ARE DOING.  GOOD.

For those parents groping for what to say to your children...this is what you tell them!

"Love conquers all"—Virgil, 70BC-19BC; see also 1 Corinthians 13.

In the midst of this tragedy, let us not forget the spirit of the season.  Whether Christian, Muslim, Jew, atheist, or otherwise, I bid each and every one of you....

PEACE ON EARTH, GOOD WILL TOWARD MAN.

This post is dedicated to the victims and families of the Sandy Hook tragedy.  May they eventually find peace and healing in their hearts.

Twas 11 days before Christmas, around 9:38 when 20 beautiful children stormed through heavens gate. Their smiles were contagious, their laughter filled the air. They could hardly believe all the beauty they saw there. They were filled with such joy; they didnt know what to say. They remembered nothing of what had happened earlier that day. “where are we?" asked a little girl, as quiet as a mouse. “This is heaven" declared a small boy. "We’re spending Christmas at Gods house”. When what to their wondering eyes did appear, but Jesus, their savior, the children gathered near. He looked at them and smiled, and they smiled just the same. Then He opened His arms and He called them by name. And in that moment was joy, that only heaven can bring those children all flew into the arms of their King and as they lingered in the warmth of His embrace, one small girl turned and looked at Jesus face. And...as if He could read all the questions she had He gently whispered to her, "Ill take care of mom and dad. “then He looked down on earth, the world far below He saw all of the hurt, the sorrow, and woe, then He closed His eyes and He outstretched His hand, “Let My power and presence re-enter this land! “May this country be delivered from the hands of fools” “I’m taking back my nation. Im taking back my schools! “Then He and the children stood up without a sound. “Come now my children let me show you around. “Excitement filled the space, some skipped and some ran. All displaying enthusiasm that only a small child can. And I heard Him proclaim as He walked out of sight, “in the midst of this darkness,” I AM STILL THE LIGHT."

—Anonymous

I would also like to dedicate this post to the thousands of men and women in uniform around the globe who are missing their loved ones this Christmas season so that we may be secure.

More relevant passages and beautiful tributes to those lost...

"Hallelujah"sung by the cast and crew of The Voice:

"Heaven help us All"sung by author Tawni Waters:
