How To Create Undeletable Unrenamable Folders in Windows

With this trick on how to create undeletable and unrenamable folders in Windows, you'll get to know how to protect your files and folders from unauthorized access. To save important files which you might likely need in future and will not like to lose if they're deleted mistakenly or on purpose, placing these files in permanent folders that cannot be deleted is advisable. Creating these undeletable and unrenamble folders on windows requires the use of keywords which are reserved words that cannot be used as folder names.

Make Undeletable and Unrenamable Folders

  • Click on the Start menu
  • Select Run (or press Win+R to access the Run dialogue box).
  • Type in cmd
  • In the Command Prompt Window, type the name of the drive which you'll like to create your folder as either D: or E: or F:  and press Enter. 
Note: The folder cannot be created in the root drive where windows is installed. If your Windows is installed in drive C: then use one of the drives listed above.
  • Next, type in md lpt1\  and press Enter.
On returning to the drive which you created the folder using command prompt, you should see a new folder with the same name that can't be deleted or renamed.
  • Copy all your important/personal files into this folder. Other than the keyword  lpt1 as used above in creating the undeletable and unrenamble folder, you can use other keywords such as con, aux, lpt2, lpt3, lpt4, lpt5, lpt6, lpt7, lpt8 and lpt9. And in each case, type it in this format  md keyword\

How to Delete Undeletable/Unrenamable Folder

Manually, any folder created with any of the keywords above cannot be deleted, unless you go through the command prompt. Follow the steps below to delete undeletable/unrenamable folders in Windows: 
  • Click on the Start menu.
  • Select Run
  • Type cmd to open the command prompt.
  • Type the drive either D: or E: or F: which you created the folder
  • Type in rd lpt1\ to delete the folder or if a different keyword was used type in rd keyword\
 On checking the drive on your computer, the folder has been successfully deleted. So, now you can easily Create Undeletable or Unrenamable Folders on your computer.
